Somewhat. But not really. We are a blend of 2/3 European and 1/3 Maori, Pasifika, Asian and other cultures, and this makes us a 1/4 twist different from other European cultures. Maori language and terms are used a lot, and understood. We are slowly evolving into a South Pacific society, rather than a European one. New Zealanders have historically been the Only the best grandpas listen to Pink Floyd shirt Additionally,I will love this complete opposite of the type of person who either says or implies in their actions “Hey, look at me, look at me, look at me “, type of thing. They have historically been the type of people who are more likely to be annoyed if someone tries to draw attention to them. As a boy growing up in NZ I had noticed that they were rarely if ever saying “We were the first to do such and such”. Even when they were known to have done something they would try not to become the centre of attention. When Edmond Hillary climbed to the top of Mt Everest, he refused to allow anyone to say he was the first. He insisted that the Sherpa guy Tenzing Norgay did it together with him. Both men insisted to their death that they stood on top of the mountain together. I was always intrigued by that sort of attitude and thought about it a lot so here’s my take.
Imagine you are sitting in the Only the best grandpas listen to Pink Floyd shirt Additionally,I will love this British Isles or maybe Europe or wherever and thinking of migrating to another country a long way away. You could go to somewhere like Southern Africa or maybe North America or maybe India or Australia or perhaps New Zealand. You choose NZ over and above all those other choices. Why? I believe that some people, not all but a few, chose NZ because it’s so far away. Maybe they didn’t really want to stay in touch and tell those back home how well they were doing. I will give one anecdotal example. When I was about 11 I had bought my first ever camera. It was a Kodak Instamatic and I wanted to take some photos. My older brother from university had brought a couple of friends to the family rural property. I wanted to photograph the 3 of them but the two visitors turned their back to the camera because they didn’t want to be photographed. Maybe because they were ethnically Russian and 1964 wasn’t a good time for such people to be photographed anywhere outside of that country. Maybe I am only guessing but I feel they didn’t want to draw attention to themselves. That was not an unusual attitude for people in NZ in the old days. In the modern world the typical New Zealand person can be just as ethnically diverse as those living in Canada, USA or Australia but they still don’t normally try to draw attention to themselves.
